She will address the common causes of tension\, fatigue and poor tone. Through musical examples\, she will demonstrate how to incorporate these movements into playing resulting in ease\, accuracy and success.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor anyone:\n\n\nShrink the Distance: Tricks for Making All Notes Feel Close\nBrenna Berman\nThe Taubman Approach not only teaches how to move in a coordinated\, effortless manner; it also teaches us to think outside the box\, experiment\, and strategize to make our music easier to play. Many of the Taubman tools shorten the perceived distance between notes. Some tools minimize the movements needed to achieve the distances\, and others are mental tricks that convince the brain that distances are smaller than they are. Ms. Berman will explore several of these tools in detail.\n\n\nFrom Day One: Intentional Hand Coordination for Faster\, Deeper Piano Learning\nYoriko Fieleke\nYoriko Fieleke will explore the importance of coordinating both hands from the very beginning of learning a piece. Drawing on the Taubman approach and its concept of the interdependence of the hands\, she will show how intentional practice from the outset can significantly enhance learning speed\, performance quality\, and memory retention.\n\n\nProblem-Solving Practice Strategies for\nTeachers and Performers\nElizabeth Grace\nPianists spend many hours at the piano practicing for accuracy and success. Elizabeth Grace will discuss how to diagnose problems and practice efficiently\, incorporating principles of the Taubman Approach. Using musical examples\, she’ll show how students can effectively narrow in on pianistic issues and discuss practice strategies that will ensure consistent success for teachers and performers alike!\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor advanced Taubman trained Pianists:\n\n\nThe 3D Path- A Revolutionary New Strategy for Combining Movements\nBrenna Berman\nTaubman-trained pianists are accustomed to understanding movement in 3 dimensions using in and out\, shaping\, and walking hand and arm movements. Ms. Berman will show how we can combine those 3 dimensions into one unified path for ease of learning and performance. She will also show illustrations and props that help communicate these paths from person to person.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor teachers:\n\n\nTaubman Pedagogy for Younger Students and Adult Beginners\nYoriko Fieleke\nYoriko Fieleke will demonstrate helpful tools for teaching each element of the Taubman Approach to students in your studio for quick results. She will also share some games you can use to teach the basic Taubman movements to the younger students. Teachers who attend the workshop are welcome to sign up students to work one-on-one with Ms. Fieleke during this session.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClinics and Master Classes\n\n\nChances to work one-on-one with Master Teachers\nBrenna Berman\, Hugo Bermudez\, Yoriko Fieleke\, Elizabeth Grace\, Ron Stabinsky. Barbara Banacos will walk participants through key components needed for beautiful arpeggios.\n\nBarbara Banacos\n\n\n\n\nPedagogy Clinic: How to incorporate elements of the Taubman Approach into your teaching\nWith so much to teach to students\, it can be difficult to know how to incorporate elements of technique and what skills to prioritize. Barbara Banacos will share strategies on teaching the Taubman Approach with a focus on beginner and intermediate-level students. She will also work one-on-one with students of workshop attendees.\n\nBarbara Banacos\n\n\n\n\nGetting to Know the Taubman Approach\nThe Taubman Approach has positively influenced countless pianists worldwide. Join Elizabeth Grace as she discusses the foundational elements of this amazing problem-solving approach to piano playing. Through musical examples\, she will demonstrate accessible strategies to implement key principles and open the door to playing with freedom.\n\nBeth Grace\n\n\n\n\nOctaves without Obstacles\nPlaying octaves with ease is an essential skill for every pianist\, but unwanted and unnecessary obstacles can often arise. In this lecture\, Elizabeth Grace will discuss practical guidelines to playing octaves with freedom. She will also address the vital stepping stones to teaching octaves to students of all ages and levels. Join us and say goodbye to awkward octaves!\n\nBeth Grace\n\n\n\n\nOptimizing Taubman Learning and Practice – Part 1\nWorking memory and Procedural memory\nLearning to play the piano is very good for the brain because we use so many parts of the brain at different stages of learning the piano and at different stages of learning each piece. Gaining a better understanding of 2 main types of memory: working memory (holding things in mind with focus) and procedural memory (“muscle memory”) can help us know how and when to harness the strengths of each type\, from learning to play one note\, to performing on the Carnegie stage.\n\nBrenna Berman\n\n\n\n\nOptimizing Taubman Learning and Practice – Part 2\nThe master checklists for technical and musical solutions\nMany students struggle with efficient learning knowing what to do next\, especially in the middle stages of learning each piece. Technical checklists that are passage and context-specific can shorten the length of time between problems and their solutions. Brenna will cover checklists in contexts such as passagework\, octaves\, leaps\, alternating single notes and intervals\, among others.\n\nBrenna Berman\n\n\n\n\nAdvanced Choreography: Patterns\nWe all have a strong instinct to detect and recognize patterns. This can be beneficial in piano playing\, as music is full of patterns and repetition\, but often we have to use different techniques to play similar passages. Darren Wirth will show how the Taubman Approach can be used to analyze and solve these types of pattern passages and aid us in quicker learning and memorization.\n\nDarren Wirth\n\n\n\n\nMaster Class\n\n\nBrenna Berman and Beth Grace\n\n\n\n\nOpen Lessons and Free Participation\n\n\nBrenna Berman\, Barbara Banacos\, Beth Grace\n\n\n\n\nTaubman in the Jazz Setting\nRon will work with individuals in front of a class to solve pianistically jazz contexts using Taubman tools.\n\nRon Stabinsky\n\n\n\n\nSupport Group\nThis group will connect participants going through similar experiences and is geared towards attendees who are new to the Taubman Approach\, currently retraining their technique\, or are recovering from an injury. The session offers a safe place to get questions answered about the retraining method\, or simply express their feelings about the process in general.\n\nMichelle Mark\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nHOTEL / TRAVEL INFORMATION\n\n\n\n\nTo assist with your stay\, we have reserved a block of rooms at the Holiday Inn Express Longmont. She will also explain simple thinking techniques that make learning easier. \n\n\n\nChoreography Integration\n\n\n\nBarbara Banacos will present short musical examples that integrate skills of the Taubman Approach. Through the examples\, one will gain experience with how elements of the approach work together and the process of how to practice. \n\n\n\nTechnique clinic for jazz and improvising pianists\n\n\n\nRon Stabinsky will invite participants to the piano to present questions or problems encountered by jazz pianists and improvisers. Solutions will demonstrate the practical application of the basic principles of the Taubman Approach. \n\n\n\nWhat’s with all those bench pads?\n\n\n\nSonja Toutenhoofd will work one-on-one with participants to help them (or their students) get set up properly at the piano. She will address subjects such bench distance\, bench height\, and healthy alignment of the fingers\, hand\, forearm\, and torso. \n\n\n\nThe Line of Inspiration\n\n\n\nPianist/composer Darren wirth will present a lecture recital in which he reveals influences from the standard repertoire on his compositions. He will also demonstrate how elements of the Taubman Approach lead to musical expression. \n\n\n\nProblem-Solving Session\n\n\n\nParticipants are encouraged to come to the piano with any questions regarding basic Taubman Approach\, problems in their music\, as well as any pre-submitted questions. Brenna will work with them one-on-one to find solutions. \n\n\n\nOpen Discussion Group\n\n\n\nMichelle Mark will lead a group discussion for any participants wanting to talk about technique retraining\, injury experiences\, how to find further resources\, and any topics they wish to discuss. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPricing\n\n\n\nAll Saturday presentations\, clinics\, Master Class\, lectures\, and concert are included with Registration Fee of $175 ($150 with early bird discount). \n\n\n\nPrivate lessons (45 minutes) with Brenna Berman or Barbara Banacos may be added for $90 more and will take place on Sunday\, 1:30-4:30. \n\n\n\nAll events take place at Center for Musical Arts in Lafayette\, Colorado 80026 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSchedule
